Our First Geocache

August 10, 2009

For our first geocache adventure I picked what I hoped was going to be a fairly easy one as I was bringing minime along and I wanted her to think it was as awesome as I believed it would be.

Went on over to Geocaching and brought up the nearest caches. Was pleasantly surprised at how many. I quickly picked our target and loaded the co-ords into Geobeagle, got fitted out in rain gear, cuz hey it’s Langley and that’s life, and off we went.

Navigator

Geobeagle was easy enough for minime to understand and she served as our navigator.

She sure was a trooper, walking up the big hill because the arrow told her too!

Almost there!

Finally we got to the right area, now we just had to figure out where it was!

This part was more difficult than I thought. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect and although we knew we were in the right area it did take us a while to find it. Rain may have played a part in that as I was far less willing to get on my knees and look under benches, although the clue pointed that direction.

We circled the site for a bit, wondering where on earth it could be. Then, I spotted something odd… the geocache!

Found!

It was definitely smaller than I’d thought. We opened it up and retrieved the log book, which in this case was two very small pieces of paper! After noting the date and putting my name I let minime write her own name in the log.

After sending the “Log Find :-) ” from my phone we put the papers back into the cache and replaced it. When I got home I added the find to our geocaching.com profile (You’ve got to be a member to see it, but signing up is free!) and added a note on that cache that the next person may want to bring more paper!

So that was our first trek, pretty close to home and a small cache. But it was a success and that’s the important bit! Both of us had fun and are already looking forward to the next one, and plotting how to get more people involved!
